BBC World News reports that members of Donald Trump’s cabinet stayed on a separate aircraft in Turkey last month while the president quietly transferred to another plane because of a security concern linked to Iran. The account says the episode took place during a Nato summit and involved a decoy version of Air Force One.

According to the report, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent remained on the original plane after Trump boarded it on 8 July with officials and journalists. CBS News, which BBC cites as its source, said Trump later left that aircraft and was moved discreetly, using a catering truck, to a different military plane. The first jet kept the Air Force One call sign, making it the decoy.

The BBC says the decision to keep senior officials on the initial plane was tied to continuity of government planning. In a crisis, the secretary of state and treasury secretary are among the officials in the presidential line of succession, after the vice-president and congressional leaders. Other Trump aides, including White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller and communications director Steven Cheung, also stayed aboard the original aircraft.

The White House had not commented at the time of publication, BBC reported. The incident underscores the level of security planning sometimes used around a sitting president during overseas travel, especially when specific threats are cited.
