McConnell Should Call In For TV Interview Or Go On Camera, Kentucky Gov. Says - Forbes

Forbes reported that Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said Sen. Mitch McConnell should speak publicly by phone or on camera to address questions about his health after weeks away from the Senate. In a Tuesday CNN interview with Kaitlan Collins, Beshear said two photos released by McConnell’s office had not settled public concern and instead fueled further speculation about the Republican senator’s condition.

According to Forbes, Beshear said McConnell had made only two public statements since being hospitalized and had not responded to a Monday letter from the governor requesting more detail. Beshear argued that Kentuckians deserve a clearer explanation of McConnell’s condition and a timeline for when he might return to work, saying the senator had been absent for about six weeks. He also said Senate Majority Leader John Thune should press McConnell for more transparency if McConnell does not provide it himself.

Forbes noted that Beshear pointed to conservative commentator and Kentucky Republican strategist Scott Jennings, who said he had spoken with McConnell by phone for 17 minutes. Beshear said that if such a call took place, McConnell could also speak briefly on television or allow a call to be broadcast. Collins said Jennings had declined to do that and had instead described the conversation.

The report said McConnell was found unconscious at home on June 14 and taken to a hospital, citing other outlets’ accounts of emergency radio traffic. McConnell later said he had fallen, was briefly unconscious, did not have broken bones, a concussion, heart attack or stroke, and had developed mild pneumonia while hospitalized. A Monday update said he had not yet been medically cleared to leave a rehab facility.
