Mayiga Urges Kazo Church Leaders to Prioritise Community Development

What the report says
Katikkiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga has urged church leaders in Kazo Archdeaconry to concentrate on practical work that improves community welfare, especially in health, education and local economic activity. The meeting, reported by Nile Post, brought together leaders from the archdeaconry in Namirembe Diocese and was led by its chairperson, Prince Benjamin Lutimba Mutebi.
According to the report, the church leaders outlined plans to combine evangelism with social programmes, church-based development projects and wider use of technology. Mayiga told them that effective leadership means identifying problems, consulting local communities, acting on workable solutions and following up on results. He also encouraged them to strengthen initiatives that are already working while revising those that are not delivering results.
Prince Benjamin Mutebi thanked the Buganda Kingdom for development efforts such as activities tied to the Kabaka’s coronation anniversary, community sensitisation and encouragement of coffee growing. The leaders said they would promote the Kingdom’s development agenda among Christians so local communities can align with it. Venerable Canon David Mpagi Ssaava said education remains a major concern in the area, pointing to difficulties in getting parents to contribute to school needs. The group also voiced support for a proposed hospital for island communities in Ssese and Buvuma, and pledged Shs1.5 million toward the effort.
