Kikuube's Nsozi Health Centre Gets Solar Power System From Oil Companies

What the report says
Nsozi Health Centre III in Kikuube District has received a solar power system from a joint venture of oil and gas companies working in the Albertine Graben, according to Nile Post. The installation, which included 10 solar systems at the facility, was presented as part of activities linked to the 2026 Oil and Gas World Environment Day and broader community and environmental programs by the firms.
The companies said the move is intended to support cleaner energy use and help limit environmental risks as Uganda’s oil sector prepares for first production. Nile Post reported that the installation followed other outreach activities, including a community clean-up at Buhuka Landing Site and tree-planting events at schools in Kyangwali Sub-county. A CNOOC Uganda communications officer said solar power was one way the industry could reduce carbon emissions while developing oil resources.
Local and regulatory officials welcomed the project. The Petroleum Authority of Uganda said it had approved community initiatives aligned with environmental restoration goals, while the Kikuube district chairperson said the system should improve operations at the health centre, especially at night. The facility’s officer in charge said the solar power would improve service delivery by providing a more reliable electricity source.
Nsozi Health Centre III, which began operating in 2000, serves about 3,900 people in Butole Parish, according to the report. The officer in charge also noted that the health centre faces staffing shortages, which can slow service delivery, underscoring the challenge of matching infrastructure improvements with adequate personnel.
