Masaka NRM Chairperson Appeals to Museveni Over Internal Party Disputes

What the report says
Masaka City NRM chairperson Rodgers Bulegeya has written to President Yoweri Museveni, asking him to listen to all sides in internal disputes he says are dividing and demoralising party leaders in Masaka. The letter, dated August 11, 2026 and reported by Nile Post, was sent to Museveni in his role as NRM national chairman.
Bulegeya said the tensions involve State Minister for Local Government Justine Nameere, whom he accused of gaining undue influence in party affairs in the area. He claimed some leaders and security officials had been unfairly portrayed, and said disagreements around recent local council contests and parish-level politics had led to arrests, interference, and suspicion among NRM supporters. The allegations were presented in the letter and were not independently verified in the article.
He also said the disputes were affecting the party’s wider support base, including relations with religious, cultural and media figures. Bulegeya urged Museveni to rely on verified information and to summon the parties involved before making decisions. Nameere’s response was not included.
The appeal comes as the NRM tries to strengthen its grassroots structures after the recent local council elections. Bulegeya pointed to the party’s performance in Masaka City, saying it won 95 of 201 LC1 chairperson seats and 22 of 25 parishes, and argued that those gains should not be undermined by internal conflict.
