The article, published July 27, said Marvel drew positive reaction with Black Panther III casting news involving David Jonsson, Ryan Gosling’s reported MCU role as Ghost Rider, and an Avengers: Doomsday reel shown to attendees.

On the DC side, THR reported that HBO’s Green Lantern drama Lanterns improved its standing with a stronger trailer, several clips and a detailed fan activation. DC Comics also had a notable convention, leading the Eisner Awards with eight wins and two shared wins, according to the report. However, THR noted that DC Studios did not deliver the kind of broad film slate presentation often associated with Marvel, with James Gunn absent while working on Man of Tomorrow.

The report described Mike Flanagan’s Carrie adaptation for Prime Video as a strong showing, including a trailer for an eight-episode update of Stephen King’s novel. Depp’s costumed promotion of Ebenezer generated fan enthusiasm but also an awkward panel moment, according to THR, as the actor’s surprise appearance ran longer than expected.

Other developments received mixed marks. THR said Spaceballs: The New One earned goodwill with Rick Moranis, Mel Brooks and a viral mock-franchise bit but did not show actual film footage. Blade Runner 2099 faced divided online reaction after its trailer and November premiere announcement, while Star Trek had little news amid a lull in Paramount’s TV production.
