Police in Lilongwe have arrested one suspect after a violent home invasion in Mbavi-Four Ways, near Airwing, in which a couple were attacked with machetes and robbed of a gun, laptops and other property, according to a report published by Nyasa Times and distributed by AllAfrica. The suspect, identified as Jimmy Banda, is 33, and police said he was found with ammunition and several items they believe were taken during the raid.

The article says Banda and other alleged accomplices entered the home armed with panga knives and an axe. During the assault, a 36-year-old accountant was reportedly hacked on the arm, while his wife was struck on the cheek. The attackers then fled with the couple’s firearm, mobile phones, three laptops and additional valuables.

Police also recovered several weapons, including panga knives, an axe, a crowbar, a hacksaw and pliers, as well as clothing and electronics. The total value of the stolen property was put at more than K6.7 million. Authorities said they are still searching for the remaining suspects.
