A Ukrainian drone and missile attack on the Russian Black Sea port city of Novorossiysk has damaged grain export terminals and struck infrastructure linked to Russia’s main naval base there, according to BBC World News. The Wednesday night assault also killed three people, including a child, and injured 24, officials said. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed a “unique operation” involving rockets and underwater drones aimed at the naval base, though he did not directly refer to the grain facilities.

The BBC said a major grain trading company confirmed its terminal had been hit, while another company told Reuters and RBK the same. In response, Russia’s agriculture ministry said it was working to shift cargo through alternative ports in the Baltic and Caspian Seas and by land routes. Local authorities in Krasnodar region said the port area and nearby districts came under repeated drone strikes, with emergency measures declared and some pipelines damaged.

The attack comes amid a wider pattern of reciprocal strikes on shipping and port infrastructure in the Black Sea. BBC World News reported that both Russian and Ukrainian grain exports have been falling as the war disrupts maritime trade. Since Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, the two countries have remained major suppliers to global markets, especially in North Africa, the Middle East and parts of Asia, making continued disruption significant for food security and prices.
