Machika Thanksgiving Rally Signals New Era of Political Unity in Tororo

Nile Post reported that thousands of people attended a thanksgiving event for West Budama North East MP Richard Owere Machika at Paya Primary School playground in Tororo District on Saturday, following his victory in the recently concluded general elections. The gathering brought together political, religious and cultural leaders, including nearly all MPs from the Bukedi sub-region, and was presided over by Speaker of Parliament Jacob Markson Oboth-Oboth.

According to the report, the event also served as a launchpad for community initiatives in health and education. Machika unveiled a new ambulance intended to improve emergency medical response in the constituency. More than Shs100 million was also raised for education programmes, with Machika saying the funds would support school feeding, scholarships for vulnerable learners and scholastic materials in an area described as having struggled with poor academic performance.

Several leaders used the occasion to call for reduced political rivalry in Tororo. State Minister for Works Julius Maganda cautioned residents against expecting MPs to directly provide services beyond their lawmaking, representation and oversight roles. State Minister for Trade Sanjay Tanna said leaders had agreed to focus on development, while Speaker Oboth-Oboth said political divisions had slowed progress and urged cooperation during the new five-year term.
