The New York Post reported that PGA Tour veteran Lucas Glover drew attention during Sunday’s final round of the 3M Open in Minnesota after taking off his shoes on the 10th green before retrieving his ball from the cup. The incident came moments after Glover made a roughly 10-foot birdie putt at TPC Twin Cities, and clips of the moment circulated on social media.

According to the Post, the broadcast and online discussion initially connected the move to a possible protest of AimPoint, a putting method in which players use their feet to help read slopes on greens. The PGA Tour later said Glover had been asked to watch the marks left by his spikes and that his response was intended as lighthearted rather than a statement about that technique.

Glover also disputed the AimPoint interpretation in comments cited by the Post. He said the issue involved complaints from players behind him about spike marks, noted that he wears metal spikes, and said another player ahead was doing the same. He described himself as having been “singled” out and told Golf Channel that soft, damp bentgrass greens are difficult to avoid marking. He also pointed to the current allowance for players to repair spike marks on greens.

The moment did not alter Glover’s overall tournament standing. The Post reported he finished outside the top 50 after opening with a 65 and following with rounds of 70, 72 and 72, including a triple bogey on the 11th hole after the shoe-removal episode.
