Live updates: US and Saudi forces conduct strikes on Iranian proxies in Iraq - CNN

What the report says
CNN reported that US Central Command said American and Saudi forces carried out joint strikes in eastern Iraq against Iran-aligned groups accused of attacking US forces and Saudi energy infrastructure. CENTCOM said US and Saudi fighter aircraft hit logistics and weapons sites after more than 30 drone attacks over 72 hours that it attributed to directions from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
Saudi Arabia’s Defense Ministry described the operation as limited and targeted, saying it followed drone launches from Iraq toward oil facilities in eastern Saudi Arabia. CNN noted that Riyadh’s participation was significant because Saudi Arabia has largely sought to avoid being drawn more deeply into the Iran-US conflict, even as it has faced attacks linked to Iran-backed groups.
An Iran-aligned Iraqi militia under the Popular Mobilization Forces said several of its bases were struck early Wednesday, with preliminary reports of deaths, injuries and building damage. The PMF called the strikes a dangerous escalation and a violation of Iraqi sovereignty. CNN provided context that the PMF is part of Iraq’s official security apparatus but includes powerful factions with close ties to Iran’s IRGC.
Separately, CNN reported that CENTCOM said US forces intercepted multiple ballistic missiles launched by Iran in an attempted surprise attack on US forces in the Middle East. Iran’s IRGC said it had fired missiles at US military targets in Jordan, according to Iranian state media cited by CNN. The developments came as President Donald Trump met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House, and as oil prices rose following the missile news.
