Liberia: Supreme Court Justice Orders Bundoo's Conditional Release

AllAfrica, carrying a report from The New Dawn, says Liberia Supreme Court Associate Justice Yussif D. Kaba has ordered the conditional release of Nora Finda Bundoo, a former Executive Mansion chief of protocol, from Monrovia Central Prison. The order allows Bundoo to remain in the custody of her lawyers while the justice in chambers considers her challenge to an US$8 million criminal appearance bond. She was required to turn over her passport to the sheriff of Criminal Court “C.”

The report says Kaba acted after Bundoo filed a petition for a writ of prohibition against a ruling by Criminal Court “C” Judge Ousman F. Feika. The Supreme Court clerk’s office cited Feika and other respondents to appear at a conference on August 4, 2026. The respondents include the Assets Recovery and Property Retrieval Task Force, represented by Cllr. Edwin K. Martin, and the Ministry of Justice.

Bundoo had been jailed after Feika rejected her second proposed bond and set a new US$8 million bond. She is among more than 48 defendants indicted in a corruption case involving alleged diversion and laundering of public funds. The charges reported include money laundering, theft of property, misuse of public money, conspiracy, forgery and criminal facilitation. The accusations remain unproven, and the article notes she has not been convicted.

Her lawyers argue the bond is excessive, unequal compared with other defendants’ treatment, and contrary to Liberia’s constitutional protection against excessive bail.
