Liberia: Supreme Court Justice Orders Bundoo's Conditional Release

AllAfrica, carrying a report from The New Dawn in Monrovia, says Supreme Court Associate Justice Yussif D. Kaba has ordered the conditional release of Nora Finda Bundoo, Liberia’s former Executive Mansion chief of protocol, from Monrovia Central Prison. Bundoo was released to her lawyers after one night in custody while the justice considers her challenge to an US$8 million criminal appearance bond. She must surrender her passport to the sheriff of Criminal Court “C.”

The order came after Bundoo filed a petition for a writ of prohibition against a ruling by Criminal Court “C” Judge Ousman F. Feika. Justice Kaba has called Feika and other respondents, including the Assets Recovery and Property Retrieval Task Force and the Ministry of Justice, to a conference set for August 4, 2026. The intervention pauses Bundoo’s detention but does not resolve the underlying charges or decide whether the bond is valid.

Bundoo is one of more than 48 defendants indicted in a corruption case involving alleged diversion and laundering of public funds. The reported charges include money laundering, theft of property, misuse of public money, criminal conspiracy, forgery and criminal facilitation. These remain allegations, and the report notes she has not been convicted.

According to the report, Judge Feika rejected earlier bond arrangements, including concerns over proposed sureties, and later set the bond at US$8 million after prosecutors challenged the sufficiency of a revised bond. Bundoo’s lawyers argue she should have been given more time to replace or supplement the rejected bond and say the amount is excessive under Liberia’s Constitution. They also point to her voluntary return to Liberia and cooperation with the court as evidence she is not a flight risk.
