Liberia: Retired Court Marshal Demands Probe After Violent Eviction

AllAfrica, carrying a report from The New Dawn in Monrovia, says retired Supreme Court of Liberia Marshal Brig. Gen. Amos B.K. Dickson is seeking an investigation after he was injured during the enforcement of a court-ordered eviction near the Battery Factory on the Jamaica Road-Japan Freeway corridor. The report, dated July 29, 2026, says Dickson described the operation as unsafe and poorly managed.

Dickson, 72, told journalists at his Kebbah residence that he suffered a serious head wound requiring nearly 19 stitches after his vehicle was caught up in clashes linked to the eviction. He said he was on a routine morning trip to oversee renovation work at his school and did not know the road was affected by an enforcement action. According to his account, there were no visible warnings, traffic diversions or public notices before stones and bottles were thrown in the area.

The former judicial officer said his daughter was with him and later helped him after he began bleeding. He alleged that security personnel were present but did not assist him. Dickson said he accepts that lawful court orders must be carried out, but argued that officials should first warn the public, close or redirect traffic, and prevent uninvolved motorists from entering volatile areas.

The New Dawn reported that Dickson wants authorities to examine how the eviction was planned, why traffic control measures were allegedly absent, and how security personnel responded to injured civilians. The case highlights the risks surrounding eviction enforcement in crowded urban corridors when legal action intersects with public safety and transport management.
