Liberia: Boakai Puts Govt Officials On Notice

President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has warned Liberian ministries, agencies and other public institutions that slow delivery on the government’s development plan will no longer be tolerated. According to the Liberian Observer, speaking on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at a National Steering Committee meeting at Monrovia City Hall, he pressed officials to speed up implementation of the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID), the country’s 2024-2029 national development plan.

The meeting brought together senior officials, development partners, private sector representatives, civil society and other stakeholders to review the first year of AAID implementation and draft reports for the first and second quarters of 2026. Boakai said the plan was intended to produce visible improvements in daily life, including better roads and services, and he acknowledged that the government had made progress. He also said achievements had been uneven and that delays, weak coordination and institutional bottlenecks remained.

Boakai told officials that performance would be expected within the plan’s timeframe and that repeated failures could lead to reassignment or removal. He emphasized merit-based appointments and said promotions should depend on results rather than personal ties.

He also stressed that timely, complete reporting is essential for oversight and accountability, and directed institutions to submit updates in the format set by the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning. The remarks suggest the administration is seeking tighter control over execution, monitoring and spending as it tries to turn the AAID into measurable outcomes.
