“Let Your Performance Silence Political Critics,” Minister Babalanda Tells RDCs

What the report says
Uganda’s Minister for the Presidency, Babirye Milly Babalanda, has told Resident District Commissioners and other presidential representatives that their best answer to political criticism is visible performance. Watchdog Uganda reported that she made the remarks on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, while closing a three-day capacity-building workshop for RDCs, deputy RDCs, assistant RDCs, regional internal security officers and district internal security officers from the Busoga Sub-region at Source of the Nile Hotel in Jinja City.
Babalanda urged the officers to spend more time in communities rather than working only from offices. She said they should monitor government projects directly, check whether public money is being used properly, identify problems, and follow up until corrective action is taken. She also warned against unproven accusations and said anti-corruption work must follow evidence, due process and legal procedure. Her message emphasized professionalism, cooperation across government structures, and avoiding partisan activity.
The minister also cautioned the officers that their conduct shapes public confidence in government and the Presidency, and she discouraged speculation about transfers and appointments. According to the report, she said citizens expect delivery, not internal disputes, and that functioning services and protected public resources are the clearest signs of government success.
The article also says Uganda Railways Corporation board chair and former energy minister Daudi Migereko urged the same audience to promote the four-acre model as a poverty-reduction strategy, especially in Busoga. He linked the effort to wealth creation and said local leaders should help communities move toward higher-value farming and other income-generating enterprises.
