Leicester close in on Swansea's Wales forward Cullen

BBC Sport reports that Leicester City are in advanced negotiations to sign Swansea City forward Liam Cullen, with the Wales international expected to complete a permanent move. The potential transfer would reunite Cullen with Leicester head coach Russell Martin, who managed him at Swansea between 2021 and 2023. Cullen still has two years remaining on his Swansea contract, according to the report.

Cullen, 27, is a product of Swansea’s academy, having joined the club as a child, and has gone on to make 194 appearances in all competitions, scoring 36 goals. He made his senior debut in the EFL Cup in August 2018 under Graham Potter and later scored a notable first Swansea goal on the final day of the extended 2019-20 season, when the club secured a Championship play-off place.

The move would add attacking depth for Leicester as they prepare for life in League One under Martin. For Swansea, the report says the club are aiming to retain Zan Vipotnik, last season’s Championship top scorer, and to get more regular use from former Celtic striker Adam Idah after an injury-affected first campaign.

BBC Sport notes that Cullen has not always been used as a regular starting centre-forward at Swansea, often operating in a deeper position, a role he has also filled for Wales under Craig Bellamy. Swansea have already strengthened this summer with additions including Elijah Just, Moussa Yeo, Stephen Welsh, Joseph Opoku and Leo Walta.
