What the report says

The Independent Uganda reported from Hoima that the race for the semi-finals of the 5th edition of the Tooro Kingdom MTN Masaza Tournament tightened over the weekend, with Kitagwenda Isaza becoming the first team to secure a place in the last four. Kitagwenda earned the qualification after drawing 1-1 with Kibaale Isaza at Ntara Christian Primary School Playground, a result that took them to four points at the top of Group B and left them through with a game remaining.

The same round saw Mwenge North keep their slim hopes alive after a 3-2 win over Ntoroko Isaza at Kyarusozi Playground in Kyenjojo District. The match was described as a lively contest in front of a large home crowd. Despite the victory, Mwenge North still need a favourable set of results to progress, including help from Ntoroko’s final group game against Fort Portal Isaza.

The report said Ntoroko remain in mathematical contention, but face a difficult task if they are to qualify automatically from Group C. Fort Portal currently lead the group, according to the article. The tournament also continued its practice of rewarding standout players with instant Mobile Money prizes from MTN Uganda, with players from both matches receiving cash awards for man-of-the-match and second-best performances.

Beyond the weekend’s results, the tournament continues to serve as a regional football platform for talent identification and community engagement across the Tooro area, with more group-stage fixtures still to determine the remaining semi-final places.
