Kenya: Three Held for 30 Days Over Killing of Dr Victoria Mutiso As Dci Pursues More Suspects

Nairobi detectives have been given 30 days to hold three suspects in connection with the killing of Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso while investigators continue to search for more witnesses, evidence and possible accomplices. The decision was made by Milimani Magistrate Paul Mutai, who said releasing the men could interfere with the inquiry and, in one case, raise added concerns because a suspect is a serving police officer.

According to the report published by Capital FM and distributed by AllAfrica, the suspects are police officer Elijah Kibelion Kimoi, Daniel Njoroge and Kevin Kinuthia. They were arrested on August 7 after what police described as an intelligence-led operation. Investigators allege Kimoi fired the fatal shot, Njoroge drove a black Toyota Prado used to block the victim’s car, and Kinuthia transported Kimoi on a motorcycle to and from the scene.

Dr Mutiso was shot on July 29, 2026, inside her Toyota Passo in Upper Hill, Nairobi. Detectives said forensic testing linked recovered cartridge cases and bullet fragments to a Mini Jericho pistol, which they say had been issued to a senior police officer who is now at large. The DCI is also examining a possible link to a land dispute and an earlier reported threat against the doctor in July.

The case remains under investigation, with police still reviewing CCTV, phone records, vehicles and other firearms. The matter is due back in court on September 10, 2026. The suspects have not been convicted and remain presumed innocent.
