Capital FM, in a report distributed by AllAfrica, says Kenya’s President William Ruto is scheduled to deliver a special national address on Thursday, 30 July 2026. State House has described the address as focused on Kenya’s future and a “renewed national vision,” but has not released the full agenda or indicated whether Ruto will discuss current political developments.

According to the report, State House’s promotional material ahead of the speech frames the message around ambition, collective responsibility and national transformation. It says the President is expected to urge Kenyans to help shape the country’s direction, presenting that duty as one shared by citizens, leaders and government under the Constitution.

The timing has drawn political attention because it follows a major setback for Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance in the Ol Kalou by-election on July 16. Capital FM reports that Democracy for the Citizens Party candidate Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru won with 35,440 votes, while UDA’s Samuel Muchina Nyagah received 5,450. Deputy President Kithure Kindiki later signalled a need for a strategic rethink within the ruling party.

The by-election has also been surrounded by controversy. Opposition leaders alleged that security agencies were used to intimidate voters and journalists, while government actors denied claims of attempted interference. Authorities have not publicly identified masked armed men reported at the scene. Capital FM notes that the contest has been viewed as a test of the Kenya Kwanza administration’s standing in the Mt Kenya region ahead of the 2027 General Election.
