Kenya: Kenya - 20 Ebola Contacts Released From Quarantine

What the report says
Twenty people linked to Kenya’s first confirmed Ebola Bundibugyo virus disease case have been released from quarantine after completing the required 21-day monitoring period, according to a UN News report distributed by AllAfrica. The group had been isolated as part of Kenya’s wider contact-tracing response after the country confirmed its first case on 6 October 2026.
The report says the people discharged on Monday had stayed symptom-free throughout quarantine and underwent final health checks, counselling and follow-up arrangements before returning home. Kenya’s health authorities, with support from the World Health Organization, had traced contacts connected to the case, including family members, passengers, crew, airport staff and medical workers.
WHO said 98 other contacts were still in quarantine. The report also notes that eight contacts had later developed symptoms and tested positive, and were moved to an Ebola treatment centre in Nairobi. Kenya’s total was given as nine confirmed cases and two deaths, all within one linked chain, with no evidence of wider community transmission.
The article says WHO continues to support Kenya on surveillance, laboratory testing, infection prevention, border screening and community engagement. More broadly, WHO has stressed in past Ebola responses that rapid tracing and supportive care are central to limiting spread, especially when no licensed vaccine or specific treatment is available for a particular strain.
