Kenya: IEBC Announces 2027 Election Ballot Paper and Ballot Box Lid Colours

Kenya’s Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced the ballot paper and ballot box lid colours that will be used in the 2027 General Election. The update covers the six elective positions on the ballot: President, National Assembly member, County Assembly member (MCA), Senator, Woman Representative and Governor.

According to the report carried by Capital FM and distributed by AllAfrica, each ballot paper will match the colour of the lid on the corresponding ballot box. The IEBC said the system is meant to make voting and ballot handling easier for both voters and election officials. The colours listed are white for President, green for National Assembly, beige for MCA, yellow for Senator, purple for Woman Representative and blue for Governor.

The commission urged Kenyans to learn the colour codes ahead of the poll and also repeated its call for eligible but unregistered citizens to sign up. It said voter registration is available at IEBC constituency offices, Huduma Centres and the commission’s Customer Experience Centre at Anniversary Towers in Nairobi.

The announcement is part of broader preparations for the 2027 vote, which will involve millions of Kenyan voters. More generally, election authorities often use colour coding and voter education campaigns to reduce confusion at polling stations. In this case, the IEBC is also encouraging the public to rely on official information and avoid misinformation as the election approaches.
