Kenya’s Basic Education Principal Secretary John Ololtuaa said the government is rolling out measures aimed at improving public education, with a focus on teacher promotions, prompt release of capitation to schools and the supply of learning materials. He made the remarks in Kisii County during a visit to Hema Chitago Senior School in Masaba South Sub-County, according to Capital FM, which AllAfrica republished.

Ololtuaa said funds for teacher promotions had been set aside in the current financial year and noted that the Teachers Service Commission had already advertised the vacancies. He said the step is intended to support career progression for teachers while encouraging them to stay committed to classroom duties and maintain learning standards.

He also said the government under President William Ruto has moved to improve the timing of capitation disbursements and to provide textbooks for teaching and learning. In addition, he said funding for school infrastructure has increased and smart boards are being distributed to Comprehensive Schools as part of efforts to expand technology use in education.

The remarks come amid broader education reform efforts in Kenya, where funding flow, staffing and school facilities remain central concerns for schools and parents. Ololtuaa urged education stakeholders to keep institutions calm and orderly so that teaching and learning can continue in a conducive environment.
