Kenya: EACC Arrests Teacher Over Alleged Bribes From Three TSC Job Seekers

What the report says
A teacher at Friends School Kamusinga Boys High School has been arrested in Kenya over allegations that she demanded money from three unemployed teachers in exchange for helping them get jobs at the Teachers Service Commission, according to a report published by Capital FM and carried by AllAfrica. The case was handled by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), which said the suspect was arrested on October 12 after preliminary inquiries into complaints from the job seekers.
The EACC identified the suspect as Lilian Nelima Buluma. It said she allegedly asked for KSh100,000 from each of the three teachers, for a total of Sh300,000, and that preliminary checks suggested KSh150,000 had already been sent through M-Pesa. The commission also said she claimed to have contacts in the TSC and other government offices who could help arrange recruitment.
After the arrest, Buluma was taken to the EACC Western Regional Office and later booked at Bungoma Police Station while investigations continued. The commission said she could face charges under Kenya’s Anti-Bribery Act, though it did not say whether any jobs were actually secured or whether the complainants received appointments. The case highlights broader concerns in Kenya about alleged bribery tied to public-sector hiring and the use of purported connections to influence recruitment.
