Kenya: EACC Arrests Teacher Over Alleged Bribes From Three TSC Job Seekers

What the report says
A teacher at Friends School Kamusinga Boys High School in Kenya has been arrested in connection with alleged bribery tied to job recruitment at the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), according to Capital FM, which AllAfrica distributed. The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) said Lilian Nelima Buluma was detained on October 12 after complaints from three unemployed teachers who alleged that she demanded KSh300,000 in total, or KSh100,000 from each person, in exchange for helping them get TSC jobs.
EACC said preliminary checks suggested that KSh150,000 had already been sent through M-Pesa as part of the alleged payments. The commission said Buluma allegedly claimed to have links inside the TSC and other government offices that could help secure the positions. The report did not say whether any of the complainants were actually hired or whether the money was connected to any recruitment outcome.
After her arrest, Buluma was processed at the EACC Western Regional Office and then booked at Bungoma Police Station while investigations continued. She could face charges under Kenya’s Anti-Bribery Act, according to the report. More broadly, the case highlights ongoing scrutiny of alleged corruption in public-sector hiring, especially where job seekers may be vulnerable to false promises of employment.
