Kenya: Disregard Fake Kenyans.Co.Ke Graphic Falsely Attributing Mt Kenya MP Rankings to Infotrak

What the report says
AllAfrica, republishing a fact-check by Africa Check dated 21 July 2026, reported that a circulating Facebook graphic purporting to rank the 10 worst-performing members of parliament in Kenya’s Mt Kenya region is fake. The image uses Kenyans.co.ke branding and claims the rankings come from InfoTrak, a Kenyan polling and market research firm, but Africa Check said it found no evidence that either organization published such a list.
According to the report, the graphic is dated 1 July 2026 and names several MPs with low performance scores, including Kiambu Town MP John Machua Waithaka at 6%, Nyeri Town MP Duncan Mathenge at 10%, and Gatundu North MP Elijah Kururia and Chuka MP Patrick Munene at 13%. Africa Check compared the claims with InfoTrak’s CountyTrak Performance Index 2026, released the same day, and found that the official report did not list the “worst-performing” Mt Kenya MPs as the graphic suggested.
Africa Check also cited mismatched figures and credibility problems. For example, the fake graphic gave Igembe North MP Julius Taitumu 20%, while the official InfoTrak report listed 56%, and it assigned Laikipia East MP Mwangi Kiunjuri 19.5% compared with 49% in the official report. Kururia was also said not to appear in InfoTrak’s published scores. The graphic contained spelling errors in constituency names and was not found on Kenyans.co.ke’s verified social media pages.
The finding matters because Kenya is approaching the 2027 general election, and opinion polling can shape public perceptions of elected leaders. Africa Check concluded the graphic fabricated scores and falsely attributed them to InfoTrak and Kenyans.co.ke.
