Kenya: Court Detains Angela Mulwa for 14 Days in Dr Victoria Mutiso Murder Probe

A Nairobi court has ordered Angela Mulwa to remain in police custody for 14 days while detectives continue investigating the killing of clinical psychologist Dr. Victoria Nthunya Mutiso, according to Capital FM’s report distributed by AllAfrica. The court allowed the prosecution’s request in part and set the next mention of the case for August 19, 2026. It also told investigators to speed up their work during that period, while directing that Mulwa’s SIM cards be returned to her.

The report says Dr. Mutiso was shot dead on July 31 while riding in a taxi in Nairobi’s Upper Hill area, on her way to work. A post-mortem found that she died from three gunshot wounds, including two to the head. The case has drawn wider attention because investigators are also examining possible links to earlier threats reported by the victim.

Court documents cited by Capital FM say Dr. Mutiso had reported being followed and threatened about 24 days before her death. Police allege she identified Chris Mulwa as one of the men involved in one incident. Investigators are also looking at the roles of Rose Mbithe Mulwa and Chris Mulwa, and at whether the killing is connected to the 2025 murder of lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu, who had represented Prof. David Musyimi Ndetei in a property dispute. These possible links remain under investigation and have not been established in court.
