TechCrunch reports that prediction market company Kalshi sent Netflix a cease-and-desist letter on Friday seeking removal of the trailer for “Instadocs: The Prediction Games,” an upcoming documentary about prediction markets. Kalshi alleges the trailer is defamatory and includes fabricated materials as well as inaccurate or misleading claims.

According to the report, Netflix describes the film as part of its fast-turnaround “Instadoc” series and says it includes interviews with Polymarket CEO Shayne Coplan and Kalshi CEO Tarek Mansour. The disputed trailer centers on a Las Vegas gathering tied to the World Cup final, where attendees discuss large winnings from prediction markets. One person says he likes betting on Kalshi, and another displays what appears to be a $5,000 trade on a phone.

Kalshi’s objection focuses on Nevada, where TechCrunch says the company is barred from operating under a court order. In its letter, Kalshi says the phone image actually shows a May 16, 2025 bet, before the Nevada ban, but argues the trailer gives viewers the impression that a sports event contract was successfully traded in Nevada on July 19, 2026. Kalshi also says a Netflix employee had agreed not to include the receipt in the documentary’s release, while Netflix left it in the trailer.

TechCrunch also cites The Hollywood Reporter, which received a Netflix response. A Netflix spokesperson did not dispute that the screenshot was from 2025, but said the documentary footage was not fabricated and was filmed at a Las Vegas World Cup watch event on July 17, 2026. The dispute matters because prediction markets remain under close legal and regulatory scrutiny, especially where they overlap with sports betting.
