Kalshi accuses Netflix of ‘misleading’ viewers in new prediction market documentary - The Hill

The Hill reported that prediction market company Kalshi threatened legal action against Netflix over the trailer for an upcoming documentary, “Instadocs: The Prediction Games,” which is scheduled to premiere July 26. In a cease-and-desist letter sent Friday, Kalshi litigation head Jovalin Dedaj alleged the preview included false or misleading material and demanded that Netflix remove it.

According to The Hill, the trailer shows influencers in a Las Vegas mansion watching the World Cup final and talking about wagers on prediction platforms, including Kalshi. The article notes that Nevada has a court order requiring Kalshi to prevent sports-related contracts from being placed in the state, though it was not clear from the trailer whether the activity shown occurred before or after that restriction took effect on May 4. The trailer labels the footage as coming from July 19, 2026.

The dispute centers in part on a clip in which an influencer shows what appears to be a Kalshi sports event contract receipt and says he placed $5,000 on Spain to win. A Netflix spokesperson told The Hill the receipt came from a trade placed in May 2025, before the Nevada order, and said no footage in the documentary was fabricated. Kalshi, however, argued the receipt appeared made up, with marketing lead Brandon Beckhardt saying the interface did not resemble Kalshi’s platform.

The disagreement highlights the heightened scrutiny around prediction markets, which let users trade contracts tied to real-world outcomes and have drawn regulatory attention when those contracts resemble sports betting or gambling products. The Hill’s report did not say whether Kalshi had filed a lawsuit as of publication.
