What the report says

Deadline reports that Sony has released the trailer for “Jumanji: Open World,” the next installment in its modern “Jumanji” film series. The film is scheduled to open in theaters on Dec. 11, 2026, after footage was previously shown to CinemaCon attendees in Las Vegas in April. The trailer brings the franchise’s game-world avatars into the real world, with the central characters apparently trapped in a limited “demo mode.”

According to Deadline’s description, the trailer reunites Dwayne Johnson as Dr. Smolder Bravestone, Jack Black as Professor Shelly Oberon, Karen Gillan as Ruby Roundhouse and Kevin Hart as Franklin “Mouse” Finbar. Alex Wolff returns as Spencer, and Danny DeVito appears as his grandfather. Rhys Darby and Nick Jonas are also in the cast, while Brittany O’Grady is visible in the footage. Deadline notes that Jake Kasdan is back as director, with Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg credited on the screenplay.

The new clip reportedly features the game’s chaos spilling into everyday life, including animals such as ostriches and rhinoceroses running loose, set to Europe’s “The Final Countdown.” The premise marks a reversal of the recent films’ setup, in which teenagers were pulled into the Jumanji video game world.

Deadline also places the film within the broader franchise: “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” arrived in 2017, followed by “Jumanji: The Next Level” in 2019. The property traces back to Chris Van Allsburg’s children’s book and the 1995 film starring Robin Williams, Kirsten Dunst and Bonnie Hunt.
