Israeli forces continue West Bank raids as Hebron lockdown enters sixth day

What the report says
Israeli forces continued raids across Hebron and other parts of the occupied West Bank on Wednesday, as the lockdown of Hebron entered its sixth day, according to Al Jazeera and Anadolu. The army tightened restrictions at city entrances, searched homes in the Fawwar refugee camp south of Hebron, and carried out additional operations in areas including Tulkarem, Beita, Yasid and Burin. Wafa also reported detentions in Tulkarem, including a journalist and his brothers, while troops fired tear gas at protesters in Beita and raided homes in Burin.
The latest incursions come after a deadly attack on Israeli soldiers at a checkpoint last week, which Israel says prompted the operation. Palestinian officials, meanwhile, have accused the Netanyahu government of using the campaign for political gain ahead of elections in Israel. Al Jazeera reported that schools in southern Nablus shifted to remote learning because of the security situation.
UNRWA said it was gravely concerned about the situation in Hebron and warned that nearly 5,000 Palestinians had been displaced by the restrictions. The agency said the sweeping movement curbs were affecting access to basic services and evoked earlier mass displacement in northern West Bank camps during Israel’s 2025 “Iron Wall” operation. In general, prolonged military lockdowns in the West Bank have repeatedly drawn criticism from humanitarian groups over civilian access, though the exact legal and political disputes remain contested.
