Israeli attacks wound eight in Lebanon despite Rome talks

Israeli air strikes and shelling hit towns in Lebanon’s southern Tyre district on Thursday, wounding eight people in Burj Shemali, according to Lebanon’s Health Ministry as reported by Al Jazeera. The attacks also included drone strikes near Tyre and additional strikes between al-Mansouri and Majdal Zoun. Al Jazeera’s Lebanon correspondent said one strike destroyed a civilian home.

The new violence came as the third and final day of the seventh round of US-brokered talks between Lebanon and Israel concluded in Rome. According to Al Jazeera, the discussions focused on Hezbollah’s disarmament, Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory and the broader ceasefire arrangement. A senior Lebanese official told Anadolu that the sessions were organized into parallel military, political, legal and border tracks, but no breakthrough was reached.

Al Jazeera also reported that the latest escalation was not directly discussed in Rome and instead came up through a separate mechanism established on October 27. The outlet said US officials described the talks as technically productive, while a Lebanese official said the negotiating day began later than planned. The report adds that the conflict remains tied to border control, withdrawal demands and the status of ceasefire commitments, making the outcome of the talks significant for both sides and for civilians in southern Lebanon.
