Israeli attacks on Gaza kill 14, including mourners attending funeral

Al Jazeera reported that Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip killed at least 14 Palestinians on Friday, July 17, 2026, including eight people hit during a funeral gathering in Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza. Gaza’s civil defence agency and Al-Awda Hospital said at least 20 others were injured in that strike, which witnesses said hit mourners near the Ahmad Yassin Mosque as they prepared to begin a procession for a Palestinian killed earlier the same day.

According to Al Jazeera, the Israeli military confirmed it carried out the Nuseirat strike, with AFP reporting that the army said it targeted what it described as a “terrorist” cell in central Gaza. The military also said it was reviewing reports that uninvolved people were harmed. Hamas condemned the attack and accused Israel of repeatedly violating the ceasefire agreement.

The report listed additional deadly incidents Friday: a 52-year-old woman killed near Abu Tammam School in Beit Lahia, one person killed in Az-Zawayda, another in al-Sawarha west of Nuseirat, a Palestinian killed in a drone strike on a Gaza City apartment, and a woman who died from wounds sustained by Israeli gunfire southwest of Khan Younis. Several people, including children, were also reported wounded.

Al Jazeera framed the attacks against the backdrop of a nominal ceasefire that took effect last October, saying Israeli strikes have continued regularly. It cited ACLED as reporting an increase in Israeli attacks since May, with more than 40 strikes in June, and cited Haaretz as reporting that 274 children had been killed since the ceasefire began.
