Israel strikes south Lebanon after first evacuation warning in weeks

The Israeli military said the attacks were a response to what it called a Hezbollah ceasefire violation, though it gave no detailed public explanation. Under that framework, described by the BBC as agreed in late June, Israel is supposed to withdraw gradually from occupied areas in southern Lebanon as Hezbollah is disarmed. Hezbollah has rejected the deal, saying the conditions tied to its disarmament cross red lines.

The warning for Mansouri was the first in southern Lebanon since mid-June, when residents of multiple towns were told to evacuate. Local officials said the town had already seen strikes and displacement. The BBC also noted that the UN says more than 820,000 displaced people in Lebanon have begun returning home, even as hundreds of thousands remain displaced. The conflict has caused heavy casualties on both sides, underscoring how fragile the ceasefire remains.
