Inspectorate of Government Rolls Out TAAC Mainstreaming Initiative.

What the report says
The Inspectorate of Government has launched its Transparency, Accountability and Anti-Corruption (TAAC) Mainstreaming Initiative, a programme intended to reduce corruption risks and improve integrity in public service delivery. According to Wakiso District Local Government, the rollout was presented to district heads of departments by Charles Enyuk, Assistant Director of Project Risk Monitoring and Control at the Inspectorate, who urged officials to embed transparency and anti-corruption safeguards into planning, budgeting and programme implementation.
The approach combines internal mainstreaming of accountability measures within government institutions with community social accountability, which is meant to increase citizen participation in planning, monitoring and feedback on public projects. The district report says the Inspectorate framed the initiative as a preventive tool that can anticipate and detect risks before they affect programmes, while also strengthening whistleblowing and public trust.
In its presentation, the Inspectorate drew on lessons from earlier government initiatives, including the Poverty Action Fund, NUSAF and DRDIP, and pointed to reported results such as high project completion and accountability levels in some of those programmes. It also asked Wakiso District to appoint a TAAC focal person, share key project documents and adopt implementation guidelines.
Deputy Chief Administrative Officer Godfrey Rwakijuma welcomed the initiative and said the district would incorporate TAAC principles into workplans, budgets and development plans. He said the goal is to make accountability and responsible use of public resources a routine part of government operations, including monitoring of projects under the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area Urban Development Programme.
