What the report says

India will face Sri Lanka in the Women’s T20 Asia Cup final on Sunday at Dubai International Stadium in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, with India seeking a record-extending eighth title and Sri Lanka aiming to defend the trophy they won in the previous edition. The match is scheduled for 6:30pm local time (14:30 GMT). Al Jazeera said it will provide pre-match coverage before live text commentary.

The teams arrive in strong form after unbeaten runs through much of the tournament. India reached the final by beating Bangladesh in the semifinal by 40 runs, while Sri Lanka advanced after a four-wicket win over Pakistan in a low-scoring contest. Al Jazeera noted that the event has featured several low-scoring games, with spin bowling playing an important role for both sides.

India’s main batting threats have been Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana, while Deepti Sharma has led the bowling attack and N Shree Charani has also been economical. For Sri Lanka, captain Chamari Athapaththu has been central with both bat and ball, supported by Sugandika Kumari and Harshitha Samarawickrama. India have historically dominated the rivalry and have reached the final in every Women’s Asia Cup they have played, but Sri Lanka have already shown they can beat them in a title match, which adds context to Sunday’s contest.
