What the report says

The iKON Film and Television Awards are scheduled to hold their fourth edition on December 12 at the Kampala Serena Hotel, according to The Observer. Organisers said the event is being broadened beyond a single awards night into a wider gathering for filmmakers and other creatives across Africa.

The announcement was made at a press conference at Reach A Hand Africa’s headquarters in Lungujja, Kampala. The planned programme includes iKON Activate activities meant to bring together actors, producers and other film professionals for networking, discussions and collaboration, with the goal of strengthening connections in the continent’s film industry.

The report says a key pre-event activity will be iKON Activate Johannesburg in October, in partnership with South African actor, producer and filmmaker Thapelo Mokoena. Organisers expect participants from several African countries to discuss film production, distribution and the future of African cinema. Previous Activate events have been held in Lagos, Nairobi and Kigali, and a London edition is planned for April 2027.

Founder and CEO Humphrey Nabimanya said the initiative has helped encourage cross-border partnerships, citing the Uganda-Nigeria film Dambe as an example. The 2026 edition will also introduce iKON Society, a membership platform intended to give creatives access to networking, learning and industry resources.
