IGG Orders Immediate Interdiction of Chris Obore, Six Other Parliament Officials Over Corruption Charges

Uganda’s Inspector General of Government has ordered the immediate interdiction of seven senior Parliament officials who are facing corruption-related criminal charges, according to Nile Post. The directive affects Parliament’s Director of Communications and Public Affairs Chris Obore, Director of Human Resource Daniel Adilo, Principal Research Officer Rajab Kaaya Ssemalulu, Principal Protocol Officer Emmanuel Emuron Okwi, Capacity Development Officer Vincent Otebata, Executive Secretary in the Office of the Speaker Leonard Okema and Office Supervisor Stella Itute.

The IGG, Lady Justice Aisha Naluzze Batala, instructed the Clerk to Parliament, Adolf Mwesige, to act at once, reversing earlier indications that the officials might remain on full pay until the end of August before disciplinary steps began. The officials are accused in connection with an alleged Shs27 billion corruption case and are reported to be on remand at Luzira Prison after appearing before the Anti-Corruption Court on July 1, 2026. They face charges including embezzlement and causing financial loss.

Nile Post reported that the IGG cited constitutional and statutory powers to suspend the officials from carrying out their duties while the criminal case continues. The Inspectorate said the move was meant to protect public interest and institutional integrity while due process runs its course.

The case is also moving through the courts. The Anti-Corruption Court declined to hear bail applications, saying jurisdiction on bail lies with the High Court because the charge sheet includes money laundering allegations. Prosecutors have said investigations are still advanced and that committal papers are being prepared for transfer to the High Court. Obore has separately sought bail from the High Court, arguing that his detention is affecting his family’s welfare.
