GQ Magazine reported that a Food and Drug Administration advisory panel voted during a two-day hearing on July 23 and 24 to recommend allowing six peptides that had previously been barred for human use under the Biden administration. The panel backed six of seven substances under review, including BPC-157 and TB-500, often marketed together as the “Wolverine Stack,” along with KPV, MOTS-c, Emideltide and Semax. Epitalon was the only peptide rejected by the panel.

The recommendations are not final FDA approval. GQ noted that the agency must still decide whether to accept the panel’s advice, a process that can take months or longer, and that the FDA has sometimes rejected advisory votes. If adopted, the changes could reshape access for compounding pharmacies and telehealth companies, including Hims, which GQ said has shown interest in selling peptides if they become permitted.

The hearing reflected a wider dispute over peptide regulation. GQ reported that career FDA scientists had raised concerns about limited human clinical evidence on safety and effectiveness, while some industry-linked panelists and peptide suppliers argued that regulated access could be safer than the current gray market. Peptides are amino-acid chains involved in biological signaling, and some, such as insulin and GLP-1 drugs, are established medicines. GQ’s report focused on a newer wellness-driven market in which peptides are promoted online for recovery, skin, metabolism and sleep, often without the same evidence base or quality controls as approved pharmaceuticals.
