Hoima Stadium 99% CAF-compliant, to host Cranes’ Libya qualifier – Ogwang

Sports Minister Peter Ogwang says Hoima City Stadium has resolved nearly all of the Confederation of African Football’s concerns, putting the venue on course to host Uganda’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Libya. Speaking on NBS Sport, Ogwang said a preliminary CAF review found the stadium about 99% compliant with the standards needed for international matches. He added that the Cranes’ home fixture, due next month, should go ahead at the new stadium in Hoima.

According to the report from Nile Post, CAF had earlier raised issues in March 2026 involving spectator movement, technical bench placement, media workspace, dressing-room adjustments, VIP access and parking for team buses. The latest assessment suggests most of those gaps have now been fixed or improved to an acceptable level. The stadium was built by Turkish contractor Summa International Construction Company at a cost estimated at $129 million to $131 million, funded through Uganda’s Petroleum Fund.

Ogwang also said Kitara FC may use the venue for continental matches, while stressing that clubs and organizers must follow CAF rules on capacity and crowd control. The development matters because Uganda, as a co-host of AFCON 2027 with Kenya and Tanzania, is still using the qualifiers as preparation for the finals and as a test of stadium readiness. If confirmed, the Libya match would be a major early exam for Hoima City Stadium’s ability to stage top-level football.
