Jalopnik reported July 26 that the 2021 Mercedes-Maybach S580, a top-tier version of the S-Class, has lost about one-third of its original value after five years. The model launched in 2020 for the 2021 model year with a starting price of $185,950 and a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 rated at 496 horsepower, paired with Mercedes’ 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system.

Citing Kelley Blue Book, Jalopnik said the car’s current fair purchase price is about $123,000, implying depreciation of 34.4%. The outlet also reviewed used-market listings and found broadly similar results: four priced examples on Cars.com averaged about $124,232, while CarGurus listings suggested a somewhat lower depreciation rate of about 30.7%. The lowest listed example Jalopnik highlighted was a higher-mileage S580 at $99,970, while some low-mileage or specialty listings were much more expensive.

The report noted that asking prices may vary because individual cars can include costly options not reflected in a base-MSRP comparison. It also said the Maybach’s decline appears milder than that of the standard 2021 Mercedes-Benz S580, which KBB places at about $58,300 from an original $117,350 starting price, or roughly a 50% drop.

Jalopnik suggested exclusivity may help support Maybach values, noting far fewer 2021 Maybach S580 listings than standard S580 listings on CarGurus at the time of its review. For buyers, the findings point to meaningful savings versus new pricing, though ultra-luxury maintenance, options and mileage remain important factors beyond headline depreciation.
