Guardiola-Walker fallout revealed in new documentary

What the report says
A new Amazon Prime documentary about Pep Guardiola’s final two seasons at Manchester City shows a tense exchange between the manager and former captain Kyle Walker, offering a rare behind-the-scenes look at one of the club’s key dressing-room disputes. According to BBC Sport Football, the series captures Guardiola telling players he was deeply upset that Walker had asked to leave, and criticising the way the defender handled the situation.
The documentary links that fallout to Walker’s exit in January 2025, when he left on loan to AC Milan after seeking a fresh challenge. It also revisits an earlier argument after City’s defeat at Liverpool in December 2024, when Guardiola blamed a costly error by Walker and the defender pushed back, saying his name was being singled out in meetings. Walker had been selected by his teammates as City captain for the 2024-25 season.
Beyond that dispute, the series shows Guardiola admitting he came close to not renewing his contract after a run of poor results in 2024. City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak also says he was unsure he could persuade him to stay. The footage adds context to a difficult period for the club, which was dealing with injuries, uncertainty around Premier League charges, and a major squad rebuild. Guardiola later stepped down at the end of the 2025-26 season after 10 years and 20 trophies at City.
