Ghana: Court Adjourns Former Deputy Nss CEO Trial to Nov 9

What the report says
The High Court in Accra has adjourned the trial of former National Service Authority Deputy Executive Director Gifty Oware-Mensah until November 9, 2026, for continuation, according to Ghanaian Times via AllAfrica. The pause came after her lawyers asked the court for more time in the case before Justice Audrey Kocuvie-Tay. Oware-Mensah remains on bail and has denied the charges against her.
The case has already been the subject of a separate legal challenge at the Supreme Court. In May, the apex court rejected an attempt by her legal team to stop the trial on the basis of an alleged failure to comply with a practice direction tied to case management and defence witness disclosure. The Supreme Court said that constitutional questions of that kind do not automatically halt an ongoing criminal case.
Ghanaian Times reports that Oware-Mensah is facing five counts, including causing financial loss to the state, using public office for profit and money laundering. The prosecution alleges she was involved in a scheme linked to ghost names on the National Service payroll and that the state lost more than GH¢38 million. The report says the case was filed by Attorney-General Dominic Ayine in October 2025. If proven, the allegations would highlight wider concerns about payroll fraud and public financial management in Ghana, though those claims remain before the court.
