The BBC said the immediate challenge is containment rather than full extinguishment, with firefighters repeatedly moving between new outbreaks. Crews are also soaking soil and vegetation in a preventive process known locally as “noyer,” or “drowning.” The report said the Gironde fires are under relative control for now, but remain active and dangerous as extreme heat continues.
