What the report says

Forest Green Rovers have launched legal action against Peterborough United over what the club says was an improper approach for former manager Robbie Savage, according to chairman and owner Dale Vince. Vince said in a social media video that Forest Green had begun a legal process over the alleged “tapping up” of Savage, who left the National League club earlier this month to take charge at the League One side.

BBC Sport reports that Vince had initially refused permission for Peterborough to speak to Savage, but later said he felt compelled to allow the move after the manager was contacted directly. Peterborough have not commented on the legal action, though they have previously rejected claims that they made an illegal approach. Club chairman Darren MacAnthony has said the appointment process was carried out properly.

Savage was appointed Forest Green manager in July 2025 after a successful spell at Macclesfield FC, and he led the Gloucestershire club to the play-offs last season before their defeat by Boreham Wood. His move to Peterborough on 2 October ended his only full season in charge. The dispute matters because it raises questions about how clubs handle manager recruitment and whether the formal rules around approaches were followed.
