Flávio Bolsonaro lands in Miami after defeat in Brazil's presidential election

What the report says
Flávio Bolsonaro, the Brazilian senator and son of former president Jair Bolsonaro, has arrived in Miami after Brazil’s presidential election defeat, according to BBC World News. His trip ended several days of uncertainty about his location, after reports placed him in Argentina and then in the United States before officials and flight data clarified his movements.
The BBC said Brazilian authorities had cancelled Bolsonaro’s passport after he did not hand it over in connection with an ongoing criminal investigation. The US State Department had said it would grant visas to Bolsonaro and members of his family, who travelled with him. Bolsonaro denied wrongdoing and, in a statement circulated by an ally, repeated claims that he was the rightful winner of the election and said he was traveling to protect his family.
BBC reporting says he was photographed leaving Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport after a route that included a stop in Ecuador following departure from Argentina. Brazilian and Argentine officials had earlier given conflicting information about his whereabouts, adding to the confusion.
The story matters because Bolsonaro remains a politically significant figure in Brazil and is facing two investigations before the Supreme Federal Court. The BBC also noted that his departure comes amid a broader pattern of family travel to the US, including his father’s stay in Florida after the 2022 election and Eduardo Bolsonaro’s move to Texas.
