Female Soldiers Urged To Prioritize Career Development

What the report says
Colonel Carol Basaliza, the Head of Women Affairs in the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces Land Force, has urged female soldiers in the 3 Infantry Division to put career development, discipline and professionalism first. According to Watchdog Uganda, she met the troops in Moroto and used the engagement to discuss health, conduct and the importance of staying focused on military service.
Basaliza cautioned junior female personnel against habits and lifestyle choices that could interrupt their progress in the army or reduce opportunities for advancement. She encouraged them to commit to service, improve their skills, take part in available courses, and remain active in training and operations before making major personal decisions that might affect their careers.
She also stressed financial responsibility, telling the soldiers to manage money carefully and pursue productive activities. In the article, Basaliza thanked the UPDF leadership, including Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, for supporting programs that aim to educate and empower female and junior soldiers across the force.
The message reflects a wider concern in military institutions about retention, discipline and professional growth among younger personnel. In this case, the focus was specifically on supporting women in uniform and encouraging long-term service development within the UPDF.
