Ex-West Brom midfielder Castro, 25, dies during friendly

What the report says
Former West Bromwich Albion midfielder Quevin Castro has died at the age of 25 after collapsing during a friendly in Portugal, BBC Sport Football reported. The incident happened during the first half of Real Sport Clube’s pre-season match against top-flight side Estrela de Amadora at the Estadio das Seixas in Lisbon on Saturday. The Lisbon Football Association said Castro passed away the following morning.
Real Sport Clube described Castro as a valued member of the club’s football family, while West Brom said it was devastated by the news. The Championship side said it would honour him with a period of applause in the 25th minute of Sunday’s league match against Burnley and by wearing black armbands.
Castro joined West Brom in 2021 and made his senior debut for the club in a Carabao Cup match against Arsenal. He later appeared against Swansea before a loan spell at Burton Albion. BBC Sport also noted that he had played for several clubs in England, including Cambridge City, York City and Notts County, before returning to Portugal last summer. The death has prompted tributes from both his former and current clubs and underlines the close ties between players and the communities around them.
