EU unlocks humanitarian aid for Africa and other crisis-hit regions

The European Union has announced more than 710 million euros in humanitarian funding for people affected by conflict, natural disasters and other emergencies, with the largest share directed to sub-Saharan Africa. Additional allocations include 10 million euros for peace and stability efforts in the Great Lakes region, 103 million euros for the Palestinian territories and Lebanon, and 52 million euros for Ukraine. The announcement was made by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in a post on X, following the cancellation of a planned appearance at New York’s Global Citizen Festival.

The package comes alongside other EU-backed investments announced during the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
