Ethiopia: Peace-Security Anchor Ethiopia Must Consolidate Commitments to Peace and Security - Former PM

What the report says
Former Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn said Ethiopia should deepen its role as a regional stabilizing force and keep backing peace and security efforts in the Horn of Africa. In comments to the Ethiopian News Agency on the sidelines of the 12th Tana High-Level Forum on Security in Africa in Addis Ababa, he described Ethiopia as an important “anchor” for regional peace and cited its diplomatic involvement around the Sudan crisis and its continued role in Somalia as examples of that responsibility.
Hailemariam also said there are encouraging efforts to promote peace inside Ethiopia, arguing that domestic stability and regional security are closely linked in a country of more than 130 million people. He urged leaders to keep addressing differences through dialogue, negotiation and compromise rather than ignoring underlying issues. His remarks were presented by ENA and distributed by AllAfrica.
The former premier used the Tana Forum as a wider example of why such platforms matter. He said the annual meeting stands out for frank discussion among African leaders on security challenges and for producing recommendations that can inform African Union work. In general, the forum has been seen as a venue for policy discussion on peace and security, and Hailemariam argued that its candid approach helps turn debate into practical action.
